(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, received Hungarian Ambassador to Cambodia Tibor Baloghdi for a courtesy and farewell visit at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh on Monday morning (May 25).
During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen conveyed his satisfaction regarding the exceptional diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Hungary over the past 70 years. He emphasised that despite the geographical distance separating the two countries, their close ties and heartfelt connections remain robust and enduring.
According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo praised Ambassador Baloghdi for his dedicated service during his diplomatic mission in Cambodia. In response, the ambassador expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Cambodia and meet with Samdech Techo.
Ambassador Baloghdi praised Cambodia as a nation rich in beauty and witnessed significant development throughout his term. He highlighted the continuous improvement of living standards for the Cambodian people. The ambassador noted the advancement of bilateral relations, particularly through collaboration between the executive and legislative institutions over the past four years.
The ambassador noted significant growth in bilateral trade, particularly Cambodia’s exports to Hungary, and voiced optimism for stronger economic cooperation in the future. He added that both countries are preparing to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026 through joint activities aimed at further deepening ties.
In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked the ambassador for his dedication to fostering strong relations between the two countries. He acknowledged Hungary's valuable contributions to Cambodia's human resource development, noting that many Cambodian leaders studied in Hungary and now serve in key positions across the country.
Reflecting on his long-standing connection with Hungary since serving as Cambodia’s foreign minister, Samdech Techo recalled a series of high-level exchanges that have strengthened bilateral relations. He also highlighted his official visit to Hungary in 2019 and the subsequent visit of the Hungarian president to Cambodia as symbols of the lasting friendship between the two nations.
In conclusion, Samdech Techo reaffirmed that although Cambodia and Hungary are geographically far apart, the two countries continue to maintain strong ties and share a commitment to mutual growth and cooperation.
